Declaration of Windhoek
In October 1997 SAFRI and the SADC Secretariat organised a groundbreaking conference in Windhoek (Namibia). The German delegation was led by SAFRI Chairman Professor Jürgen E. Schrempp. The conference described the private sector as a most important driving force for sustainable development. The “Declaration of Windhoek“ defined the collaborative goals between German business leaders and the SADC member states and formulated desirable framework conditions for investors in the African countries.
SAFRI’s role is to promote direct investment and the transfer of know-how and skills to Southern Africa. Germany aims to contribute to sustainable development in the region through joint ventures, network- building, training and increased research and development. The SADC states are working towards a businessfriendly environment constructed on the five pillars of peace, political stability, democracy, the rule of law and good governance.
